An ideal setting for the two-day RECHARGE Wind Power Summit Asia-Pacific powered by WindEnergy Hamburg which sets its sights on the Asia-Pacific growth market. The Summit, which combines a specialist conference with an exhibition, will take place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on 19 and 20 May. It will be opened by Dr. Tan See Leng, Minister in charge of energy, science and technology at Singapore’s Ministry for Trade and Industry. “This highlights the importance Singapore’s government assigns to the event,” says Andrew Lee, moderator AND Corporate Power Editor at RECHARGE. The industry event is supported by two government agencies, Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board.
Conference to feature leading expertise on key topics
All in all, the event organisers will present around 40 distinguished speakers from the wind industry. Roughly 1,000 visitors are expected to attend the information-packed two-day programme. The opening plenary will explore ways to bring continuity to the growth of the Asian market. How should international project developers and manufacturers position themselves strategically to manage increasing cost pressures and political change? Dr. Dennis Rendschmidt, Managing Director of VDMA Power Systems, Europe’s leading equipment engineering industry association, believes that collaboration across industry sectors is a promising approach. He will be joined on stage by Dr.-Ing. Tim Fischer, Global Executive Director at the Danish development and advisory firm Ramboll, whose company aspires to play “a key role in the development of the global wind sector”.
In Session One, Robert Liew, research director at the consultancy Wood Mackenzie, will give an overview of the Asian wind energy market. This will be followed by an expert panel discussing specific challenges and opportunities in the region. One of the panellists is Nat Hutanuwatr, CEO of Impact Electrons Siam. The Thai company has implemented renewable energy projects with a total capacity of more than a gigawatt. A milestone cross-border project, the 600 MW Monsoon wind farm in southern Laos supplies clean electricity to the neighbouring country Vietnam.
Session Two will focus on finance. Unclear business conditions can add risk to long-term investments. Two finance experts, Michael Brandes, Director for Power and Renewables Asia Pacific at KfW IPEX-Bank in Singapore, and Carine Galtier, Managing Director, Energy and Infrastructure Group Asia at the Hong Kong office of major French bank Crédit Agricole, will discuss this topic on the podium. Fergus Smith will contribute the legal perspective. As a partner in the US law firm White & Case, he oversees the company’s global offshore wind consultancy activities.
Innovations drive growth
The intensifying competition between market players will be the subject of Session Three. As a market design expert, Ernst Kuneman, Senior Associate Power System Transformation at the think tank Agora Energiewende, knows what conditions must be met for successful expansion of renewable energy. Leadership Interview partner Nitin Apte, CEO of Vena Energy, is certain to contribute well-founded views on the subject. His Singapore-based company's express mission is to accelerate the transformation of energy infrastructure.
Doubtlessly one of the most influential personalities in Singapore's wind energy community, Aziz Merchant, Executive Vice President Technology and New Product Development at Offshore specialist Seatrium, will appear in the Leadership Spotlight Interview in Session Four. He will speak about innovations that are key to driving the continued development of wind energy.
Industrial cooperation partnerships as a pre-requisite for stable supply chains are in focus in Session Five. Supply security hinges on diversification. But how can this be accomplished without sacrificing cost benefits? This will be the subject of a panel discussion between Sayuri Watanabe, Head Asia Pacific & Japan Representative of the World Forum Offshore Wind, Sivakumar Jayapal, Chief Service Officer at ZF Wind Power, and Keng Lin Lee, CEO of the shipping company Cyan Renewables, which provides maritime services to the offshore wind sector.
Flexibility and supply security will be on the agenda of the final Session Six. Wind intensity is subject to natural fluctuation. Smart grids and advanced energy storage technologies are key elements of a roadmap towards integrating onshore and offshore wind energy into energy systems. The event will conclude with a networking reception. For the entire agenda please visit https://www.futureenergy.events/website/18561/agenda/.
Major players in the Expo area
Leading market players will be represented in the expo area, as well, providing a perfect complement to the conference. Around 50 companies will showcase their innovative services and products. “As a growth market, Asia-Pacific is a highly attractive terrain for globally active enterprises,“ said Andreas Arnheim, Director of WindEnergy Hamburg, which co-organises the event. More than 30 exhibitors have committed already, including market leaders such as the gearbox and drivetrain manufacturers ZF Wind Power and FLENDER/winergy or the pipe manufacturer Jiangsu Juxin Petroleum. Further exhibitors include ENERCON and Seatrium, a leading supplier of offshore platforms, specialised ships as well as maritime engineering and maintenance services.
The event is supported by major industry organisations, such as the Asia Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the Association of Singapore Marine and Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI), the World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) and BWE (German wind energy association), as well as VDMA (German engineering industry association). "The summit in Singapore will be a perfect platform for industry visitors and exhibiting companies to discuss the industry’s most vital topics," said Vice President Exhibitions at Hamburg Messe und Congress; Claus Ulrich Selbach. In September 2026, WindEnergy Hamburg, the world's leading wind industry fair will provide a perfect opportunity to follow up.
