Europe’s strategic answer to innovation gaps in security

The GSIS Accelerator – powered by Speer Group, launched by the Global Security and Innovation Summit (GSIS), is a new innovation initiative directly addressing Europe’s strategic security needs. The programme seeks high-potential start-ups offering relevant solutions in defence, resilience and emerging security technologies. The top ten applicants will pitch live at GSIS 2025 in Hamburg on 22 October – in front of a curated audience of global decision-makers.

Selected finalists may receive up to €5 million in equity funding per start-up, provided through Speer Group investment vehicles and subject to internal due diligence.

The GSIS Accelerator connects founders with investors, policymakers, and strategic institutions – aiming to close Europe’s innovation gaps in security through focused, scalable support. In addition to the live pitch, finalists will benefit from strategic mentoring, expert advice, and access to a high-level international network.

“Technological innovation is becoming a critical pillar of international security architecture. The Accelerator connects start-up intelligence with strategic relevance – exactly what Europe needs now.”
– Dr Bastian Giegerich, Director-General of IISS

“With GSIS and the Accelerator, we are creating a unique European platform that brings together innovation, responsibility and execution. Hamburg is the perfect stage for this convergence.”
– Heiko M. Stutzinger, CEO of Hamburg Messe and Congress GmbH

“We don’t invest in trends, but in solutions that strengthen Europe’s security and resilience. Alongside capital, we provide access to strategic experts and networks that help ventures to scale and safeguard Europe’s ability to act.”
– Max Buechner, CEO of Speer Group

“Europe cannot afford to fall behind in the global race for strategic technology. The GSIS Accelerator is designed to make security-relevant innovation visible, investable and politically scalable.”
– Dimitrios Argirakos, Executive Chair of GSIS

Finalists will be selected by an independent panel of experts from the fields of security, technology and venture capital. Key selection criteria include level of innovation, strategic relevance and scalability.

Beyond the pitch event, selected start-ups will gain access to a follow-up process that includes exposure to leading security experts, mentoring, potential investment engagement, and continued visibility across Europe’s strategic innovation ecosystem.

Targeted sectors include ventures along NATOS five strategic dimensions: Sea, Air, Land, Cyber (Intelligence), and Space, as well as complementary products. Pitches are to be submitted via Mail until 10. October 2025.

The live pitch will take place on 22 October 2025 at GSIS in Hamburg’s CCH – with the aim of identifying and promoting Europe’s most capable innovation-driven security start-ups.
