Global flagship fair to feature recruiting platform for top talent

The world-wide growth of wind energy is creating abundant job opportunities. The Recruiting Days at WindEnergy Hamburg will bring employers together with high-potential jobseekers.

Around the world, the wind energy sector is urgently looking for skilled professionals. It takes qualified staff to realise the ambitious national and international wind energy development goals. The German Federal Government, for example, plans to double the combined onshore and offshore generation capacity to 145 gigawatts by 2030. At the European level, the ambition is even higher: at the end of January, ten EU countries agreed to install offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 300 gigawatts (GW) in the North Sea by 2050. This will turn the North Sea into the world’s biggest “power generator” while making the continent much less dependent on energy imports. To achieve this, the industry aims to create over 90,000 new jobs. A study by Bertelsmann Stiftung on climate-related jobs emphasises the importance of specialist know-how: “Constructing a wind turbine is a complex process that requires thorough planning. This calls for professionals with specialist knowledge as well as planning and coordination competencies.” At the same time, working in the wind energy industry means being at the forefront of the energy transition. Climate protection is an aspect that makes these jobs especially attractive to young people.

WindEnergy Hamburg 2026, the world’s leading wind industry fair, provides companies with an ideal opportunity to get in touch with aspiring professionals. During the Recruiting Days on 24 and 25 September (Hall B3 OG), young talents can learn about training and career opportunities at participating companies and industry associations, gain insights into various jobs in wind energy, and have personal conversations with human resources representatives. Trainees, university students and pupils will have free access to the fair during these two days.

Job fair and employer forum

Employers can enhance their visibility even more at the Recruiting Forum where exhibitors will be able to deliver brief introductory keynote speeches and provide an overview of training and career opportunities they offer. Among the companies presenting career opportunities and training options in the Recruiting Forum is the Hamburg-based offshore wind farm developer and operator Skyborn Renewables. “We want to make young professionals understand the wide variety of jobs in offshore wind,” says Pia Wellhausen, Head of Talent at Skyborn Renewables “We see WindEnergy Hamburg as a key platform to strike up conversations with potential candidates, provide them with insights into our jobs, and show them all the great roles and options available to get started at our company." Student trainees at Skyborn, which is active world-wide, take part in international projects along the entire value chain of offshore wind.

Similarly, Nordex, a leading onshore wind turbine manufacturer, will use the forum to highlight the numerous training and career options it can offer. Job opportunities are available in the fields of mechatronics, warehouse logistics and office management. Student trainees, interns and direct job applicants are all welcome. “We take the opportunity of our participation in WindEnergy Hamburg to spread the news that we are an attractive employer and, of course, to meet candidates of interest,” says Ina Saal, Senior Recruiting Manager at Nordex.

Professional prospects in sustainability

Deutsche Windtechnik, which specialises in maintenance of wind turbines on land and at sea, likewise offers young people appealing options to join an industry with a bright future. The company trains mechatronics technicians, precision machinists and IT specialists, among other skills. “In our team, people new to the industry work side by side with seasoned wind energy experts,” says Mareen Athene Rohde, Team Lead – Recruiting & People Development. “The focus is always on practice-oriented quantification directly at the interface between technology and sustainable energy.” The company hopes to meet “highly motivated pupils and university students who are ready to get involved and embark on a professional career in renewable energy.”

The Career Happy Hour from 17:30 on Thursday, 24 September will be a less formal occasion. As an additional networking opportunity, it provides an environment for informal personal interaction and relaxed chatting.
